Ascend with TPA

Airside D will be a brand-new, state-of-the-art Airside terminal with 16 gates, a Transportation Security Administration security checkpoint with the latest technology, new Concessions options, two new lounge spaces, a Customs and Border Protection facility to process international arrivals and more. Tampa International Airport is working with the design-build team of Hensel Pehlps, HNTB and Gensler to create this modern facility, which will be the first new Airside terminal at TPA in almost 20 years.

As one of Florida’s four large hub airports, Tampa International Airport is growing at an astonishing rate, serving an estimated 25 million passengers traveling through the Airport in 2024. Our Master Plan market growth projections show that by 2037, TPA will serve almost 35 million annual passengers. Airside D is necessary for TPA to handle that growth.

Why, between Airsides C and E, of course! TPA used to have an Airside D, but that outdated facility was torn down in 2007. The space on which Airside D will be built is had been used as a hardstand for aircraft staying overnight at TPA, and is visible from the windows behind the food court in the northwest corner of the Main Terminal (Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A and Qdoba).

Groundbreaking will occur in late 2024. The Airside is scheduled to open to passengers in 2028.

Airside D will be the largest Airside on the TPA campus – approximately 600,015 sq. ft. That’s roughly 600 feet (east to west) by 450 feet (north to south). That’s two football fields by one-and-a-half football fields.

As TPA’s new international terminal, multiple airlines will use our gates and Customs facilities. Soon, we will announce an airline that will be the Airside’s anchor tenant and operate one of the two lounge spaces on the mezzanine level.
