Airport Board Appoints Wheat as Interim Executive Director

Tampa – At its monthly board meeting, the Tampa International Airport board of directors voted unanimously to accept the 14-year executive director Louis E. Miller’s resignation and appoint deputy executive director John Wheat as his interim replacement effective March 5. 

Wheat has been the Deputy Executive Director for Tampa International Airport for nearly 11 years. He is a well respected professional within the Airport industry with knowledge and experience in operating and managing in large hub airport environments. As chief operating officer, his responsibilities include Planning & Development, Finance, Information Technology, Administration, Properties, Maintenance, Operations and Public Safety. 

He joined the Tampa management team in August 1999 after a 26 year career with Salt Lake City. A native to the Salt Lake City area, Wheat began his career with the Salt Lake City government in 1973 and was named Director of Finance and Administration for the Salt Lake City Airport Authority in 1983. In 1986, his role was expanded as he assumed the chief operating officer duties. 

Wheat has served in various leadership roles with the Airport Council International chairing the ACI-NA Economic committee and serving on the ACI International Economic steering committee.
