HCAA Board signs contracts to fill new Consolidated Rental Car Center

(June 4, 2015) - Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board members on Thursday inked a deal with nine rental car companies to fill Tampa International Airport’s 2.6-million-square foot rental car center when it opens in 2017.

The agreement doubles the number of rental car brands on campus, and it means the Airport will now have more rental car brands under one roof than ever before. There are currently four on-Airport rental car companies representing eight brands. Once the rental car center opens, there will be nine companies representing 16 brands.

The result? A wide range of choices and prices for customers.

The brands coming to the new Consolidated Rental Car Center include:
Ace Rent A Car; Advantage Rent A Car; Alamo Rent A Car; Avis Rent A Car; Budget Rent A Car; Dollar Rent A Car; Economy Rent A Car; Enterprise Rent-A-Car; E-Z Rent-A-Car; Fox Rent A Car; Hertz Rent-A-Car; National Car Rental; Payless Car Rental; Sixt Rent A Car; Thrifty Car Rental;  and Zipcar.

The Consolidated Rental Car Center is being built to accommodate the on-Airport and off-Airport rental car market. The expanded facility will also address one of the significant findings of the 2012 Master Plan Update, which found that the current rental car operations are a major contributor to congestion within the Main Terminal.

The center will be about a four-minute ride from the Main Terminal using the Airport’s new 1.4-mile automated people mover. The shuttle will drop passengers right in front of the rental car customer service counters. Including walking time, it will take just over 10 minutes to get there from baggage claim.

When customers arrive at the Consolidated Rental Car Center, they’ll have access to rental brands, both big and small, and won’t need to go off-airport looking for a better deal.
The Consolidated Rental Car Center will also allow rental car companies to consolidate their operations to one location at the Airport. They will no longer need to rent cars on one end of the airport and service them on the other end. The Consolidated Rental Car Center will accommodate a total of 8,685 vehicles, with 30 car wash bays and 144 fueling dispensers.
